BMI calculator
BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. The WHO adult categories are under 18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 normal, 25–29.9 overweight and 30 or more obese. Taiwan's Health Promotion Administration uses 24 and 27 as the overweight and obesity cut-offs, and the Japan Society for the Study of Obesity uses 25 for obesity, because health risks rise at lower BMI in many Asian populations.
BMI is a screening number, not a diagnosis. It does not tell muscle from fat and is not meant for children, pregnant women or athletes. Talk to a doctor about your own health. Nothing you enter is sent or stored.
Frequently asked questions
Is BMI accurate for athletes?
Not always. Muscular people can have a high BMI without extra body fat.

No. Children and teenagers need age- and sex-specific BMI percentiles.
