By default the difference does not count the end date, the same as most spreadsheets: from Monday to Wednesday is 2 days. Tick “Include the end date” for things like leave or event lengths where both days count. Business days are Monday to Friday; public holidays are not removed because they differ by country and year.
When adding months or years, a date that does not exist in the target month becomes the last day of that month — for example, 31 January plus one month is 28 February (29 in a leap year).
Frequently asked questions
Are public holidays excluded from business days?
No. Only Saturdays and Sundays are skipped. Subtract your holidays manually.
How are months counted?
By calendar month: 15 March to 15 April is one month, whatever the number of days.
Which time zone is used?
Dates are counted as whole calendar days, so time zones and daylight saving time do not change the result.
