Recognition runs in your browser with the Tesseract engine, and the language data is loaded from this site — your image is never uploaded. The first use of a language downloads a few MB; after that your browser can reuse it. Large photos are scaled down and tiny ones are scaled up to read better.

Results are best on clear, straight, printed text with good contrast. Handwriting, curved or very small text, and busy backgrounds are often wrong, so always proofread the result. Pick the language that matches the picture; Chinese, Japanese and Korean also read Latin letters.

Frequently asked questions

Which languages are supported?

Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai and English. Each Asian option also reads English letters and digits.

Why is the text wrong?

Blur, glare, skewed photos, handwriting and small text lower accuracy. Use a sharp, well-lit picture of printed text and choose the right language.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It stays in your browser; only the language data is downloaded from this site.

Can it read a PDF?

Not yet. Take a screenshot or export the page as an image first.
