JPG and WebP images are re-encoded at the level you choose. PNG files cannot be compressed much without changing format, so by default they are saved as WebP, which is usually far smaller; you can choose JPG instead.

Limiting the longest side (for example to 1920 px) often saves more than lowering quality. If a file would get bigger, the original is kept.

Which level should I choose?

Balanced keeps photos looking good at a much smaller size. Use Strong for chat apps or forms with strict limits.

Why did my PNG become WebP?

PNG is lossless, so re-saving it as PNG barely helps. WebP keeps transparency and is much smaller. Choose JPG if you need maximum compatibility.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Compression happens in your browser.
